I noticed that Texas A&M is offering part of their Landscape Design Study Course Sept.25 and 26 at College Station. You don't have to be a Master Gardener to take the classes. Any one can take them (usually garden club members outnumber MGs). You can take them in any order, but it takes 2 years to complete the course. There are four sessions and only two are offered each year. The sessions each run for two days. Master Gardeners can count part of the hours toward education hours. Garden clubbers can do the same.
I took the first session when I became a Master Gardener. I went by myself and stayed in a motel rather than driving two hours back to Austin. I loved the first session and was hooked. I came back to Austin and talked so much about it that others joined me for the next session. A friend and I even drove up there a couple of years ago and sneaked in just to hear Dr. Odenwald from LSU speak again one morning. He's that good!
You get a designation as a certified Landscape Consultant, but I just enjoyed learning all the innovative aspects of landscape designing.
