The ones at the lake are sooo hungry and weak. I can walk out on the deck and they just stare at me. I go back inside, find something, anything in the freezer, and toss it out the door. They sniff it, then begin to eat. DH reminds me I'm "gonna get in trouble"....but they are pitiful right now. And we're right on the water, but I've never seen them venture down to drink from the lake? We even have steps going into the water (for the old Cocker Spaniel that couldn't jump in anymore). I remember reading that people think they're doing a good thing by giving them corn, but the deer that eat a lot of feed corn wind up having multiple births...like triplets. Not sure if that's a tale dreamed up by some person who doesn't want their landscape eaten, tho. With some of the stuff I've fed 'em, they will be spouting..."Ola!" by Christmas!
