Alfafa pellets is usually applied in the spring and in the fall, some just do spring. Also, if you've already applied it to a bed and then plant a new daylily you can at it to the hole you plant it in.

The mixing instructions are on the container. I've read some use a 28:1, 27:1 or even a 20:1 mix of water to chemical ratio. Some people use it as a foliar spray and others use it with an eye dropper and put it at the base of the fan or they put it in the bracts of the scape to try and get prolifs. You only mix what you can use in 24 hours or it starts to loose it potency Some hybidizers put the paste kind on the cut part of the crown after dividing as well. If you spray while it is scaping you will usually loose the buds and if you are trying to set pods I've read you shouldn't use it until after you are done and have gathered your pods or they will abort. Some use it in the spring others in the fall. As with any chemical, using improperly, it can kill a daylily.
Then there is GIBBERELLIC ACID ( a naturally occuring plant growth regulator) that is used to promote growth and increase that is used. There is so many different things that is being used to hasten growth.
