Coffee grounds work great, you can just sprinkle them around plants you want to protect. But the caffeine dissapates quite rapidly so you need to reapply. I had not heard of this tip, I do know that you can splash your left over coffee around the plants and it will kill the slugs, but never actually followed it to the next step, to actually make coffee on purpose and spray it.
