Hi Mona,
Meg does a fantastic job putting together the Daylily Journal and I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the article on Sculpted forms. In answer to your question about why I did not include the percentage of blooms for registering the Sculpted forms in my article, there are no percentages required for registration. While I agree personally with what has been said on this forum concerning that a majority of the blooms on a scape show the Sculpted form, it is not a requirement for registration and is each hybridizers choice.. A hybridizer can write a percentage in the description of their bloom on the registration form or include the information in a catalog or website description. The majority of the Sculpted forms I grow are consistant in showing their form, with Relief forms being the most consistant, near 100%. The confusion with the Relief forms is when hybridizers do not recognize the form correctly and confuse substance and/or texture for this form of sculpting. The Cristate forms can vary percentage wise, the midrib form having been registered for many years( most often incorrectly as a Double) but not overly popular and registration of the surface type going back to at least 2003. It will take time for hybridizers to work in consistancy not only in the percentage of blooms, but also in the shape of the growth. With that said, part of the charm of these forms is their unpredictability and inconsistancy. They may not be for everyone but for those of us who do enjoy them, evey day in the garden is a good one!
