I've liked any of the ProMix mixes I've used, but I've never tried the pgx.

I have tried a few types of seed starting mixes and never liked them. Like you, I found them too fine of a texture and they compressed too much. I use regular potting mixes for everything now, including seed starting and rooting cuttings.

I've used a lot of Sunshine MetroMix in the past couple of years and liked it. When I went to get a bag yesterday, they had the ProMix BX instead. The woman said the MetroMix got too expensive so she switched. I forgot that the Pro-Mix was in the trunk until I got in the car today. Let it suffice to say my car smells very earthy. Aromatic. Must get that out of the trunk tonight.
