Furcraea foetida var. mediopicta seems to be the correct name.

Only Furcraea foetida is listed in the Plant List which I'm sure you have checked..

http://www.theplantlist.org/tp...

So what do we do about the three in the database? Hilarious!

The RHS only has two listed, the other Furcraea foetida

http://apps.rhs.org.uk/rhsplan...

ITIS only lists Furcraea foetida ..

http://www.itis.gov/servlet/Si...

It appears Furcraea foetida 'Mediopicta' has been adapted from the var. for selling purposes.

I found a site using the correct name!

http://www.colourwise.com/Plan...

Another without the 'var.' but at least they used lower case for mediopicta ..

http://plantlust.com/plants/fu...

This site refers to it as a cultivar, not so?

http://www.prota4u.org/protav8...

This site call it both a cultivar and a variety .. Confused

Furcraea foetida 'Variegata' is probably the same as var. mediopicta?

The American Public Gardens Association are the holders of Furcraea (Taxonomic group)

I can't find anything on their site, maybe you could contact them?
