Bombax ceiba has red flowers, not white. If yours did have white flowers it would be a different plant. And the "Ceiba" referred to in relation to the Mayans also wouldn't be Bombax ceiba. It's native to here. In fact, it's native from India, throughout South East Asia and Northern Australia. Any trees in Mexico would only have been a recent introduction. Here it was used by the Aborigines to make dug-out canoes. So, you shouldn't have any problems from the spirit world if you chop yours down.
