The color splashes in the plant shown in the first post are caused by a virus. It is sometimes referred to as a 'color break' but it is a relative of the tobacco mosaic virus which will weaken and eventually kill the plant. It can also easily be transferred from plant to plant, so a serious collector who values their plants will get rid of a diseased one.
