I have used the tall metal markers with Brother Labels with TZ tape since 2006 and none have faded at all. These are used on the named hybrids, not seedlings unless they happen to be a really special seedling. They still look basically new. The metal markers do corrode a bit under the soil and I figure this is from the salt in the fertlize. As a backup, in case of squirrels or grandchildren, I have been putting a seed tag that I buy that has a coating to prevent mold with all info down under the soil in my pots.

On the my seedlings, I still use the mini blind with #9 pencil lead to write on the blind. I have these that are 6 years old and still good. I will add that the new cheapier blinds do not hold up like the older heavier plastic blinds do. I don't know how long the new blinds will last since I have only used them for a year or so. I sure hated to run out of the older blinds. Sometimes cheap is not good!

I purchased some "weatherproof" labels this month. These are address labels to print on from my PC. This is to take the place of writting labels for hours when seedlings are growing and I have 20 pots of the same plant, I can hit the old print button and BAM! it's printed and all I have to do is stick them to the mini blind. I also will put a label on the back on the mini blind that has my name and phone number and email address on the plants that I intend to sale.

I have never used these inkjet printable labels before. It's something I researched online and decided to try. I will know more as the summer goes by to see if they really are "weatherproof".

Blessings to all, Mona
