I'm fairly certain they did. Euphorbia sap can be nasty stuff, as you know. But it does the trick when it comes to repelling deer and other moochers. Our neighbors got a new dog or I was going to start planting a Euphorbia hedge of sorts around the back or our property (we back up to woods with deer, groundhogs, and the other usual suspects). I still may since they've been known to jump our fence.
