I hear some stories of how to get the fine red spines out. Put wood glue over the area. Let dry and peel off. I really don't think it would work. When my son was small, about 3 years old, he grabbed a house plant paddle cactus and had it all over his arm. I tried my best to get all the spines out. Duct tape seemed to work but it grabbed hair also. Later his arm looked like he was in poison ivy. That was the last paddle cactus in my house. My day gave me some of the small types. With yellow flowers only. They are out side where no ones, man or beast goes. Cinda is right about that. And they do look like they will never recover from winter but they do.

I posted about the large paddle cactus. Why I don't see it now? But my brother who lives in South Carolina has some I got and planted for him. They have yellow water lily blooms. Vary nice but also wicked. His is over 5 ft. tall and wide.
