This is a great tip, thanks Jill. I tried black marker and pencil on popsicle sticks for a while this spring, but the sticks turned black too . . . live and learn.
I guess you could cut up a black pot into strips and write on the strips for labels, too. My local nursery recycles used pots, so marking the pots might cause confusion there.
