Gosh, you're observant! It is some kind of animal trap...I found it in a box of antiques from my aunt. I put it there as a joke right after the caper...to illustrate what would happen if the balls went missing again. When I wrote the article, I needed a photo and pulled that one up. Was too tired to hunt for a more "appropriate" one, so left it.
