It happened rather quick in about 3-4 months...

There were handfuls of the beetle and many of the large, nasty larve in the crown of the tree

The first noticeable sign was this leakage where the beetle entered the tree. There was a pile of tree pulp down at the base of the tree.

You can see how they chewed the crown up. It had an awful odor that filled the entire neighborhood when the tree fell.

Sad day when the top fell over...



In an earlier time.... I never thought a little beetle could take it down.

We asked around what to do and were told.... nothing you can do......
I do think they entered where I had removed a frond and pulled it away from the tree and left an open area.. though minor... may have given them a chance to get a foot hold.
