Nope, no bears down here. There are big cats but they don't ramble into your yard and open your garbage can Rolling my eyes. Monkeys can do a lot of damage if they are in the mood, and of course raccoons and coatimundis. Still, they aren't anywhere near as scary as a bear. I'm glad you're all right but I agree that 6ft is waaaay too close.
