I have never heard of anything like that? A yellow maggot? Could it have been a small, possibly just hatched cut worm? (do they hatch? Shrug! )

I had cut worms on hosta, pulmonaria, witch hazel this year. I don't remember ever seeing them here before. The small ones were maybe 1/3 of an inch long, the big ones over an inch.
