Spent all day Saturday up in the Rocky Mountain National Park here in Colorado. DH & I went w/best friend. He hadn't been since he was a youngster, so it was a treat for everyone. Unfortunately, though, it was a bit drippy up there (monsoon stalled over the mountains, so it was chilly & drizzly). Guy wearing brown coat is DH, guying wearing black jacket is best friend. Dh was suffering from an injured ankle, so I was totally surprised he wanted to hike the Rock Cut trail. Ate lunch at the Alpine Visitor Center which is only 11,796ft above sea level (yes, over 2 miles). Had a really good bbq chicken sammich, too!
Most of these shots are from "Many Parks Curve", "Rainbow Curve" or "Rock Cut" parking area. There's some of the Lava Cliffs as well. The road starts down in the valley ("Beaver Ponds") & you climb climb climb. You start out at like 8,000 ft & end up at a little over 11,000+ ft. Where we hiked on Rock Cut, I didn't get a picture of the top of the rock mound as I wasn't sure about climbing wet rocks (I'm too fat to do be doing things like that), but that sits at over 12,000+ ft. The 2 lakes shown are accessible only via helicopter or hiking.. and that's one hell of a hike. They're glacier lakes, so I don't think there's any fish in them.
