Interesting, I thought we had a forum specifically for elephant ears and I see now that we do not.
Looking more into this, I found where I had a case where it was skipping the "Related threads" search altogether if a parent plant existed but no forum for that plant was there.
So I fixed all that, and related threads are now showing for colocasias (and others) like they are supposed to. Thanks for the help Evan!
