This summer I noticed during our walks around local parks that their daylilies were literally mowed down (in July), then re-foliated, and are now reblooming. My first thought was that it was just easier for them to mow than to clean up any spent foliage/scapes ... but now I've just seen a youtube video where they mentioned that reblooming daylilies should be cut back after their first bloom season in order to rebloom later.
Is this true of all climate zones and/or all foliage types (dormants, evergreens, semi's)? I'd never heard this before, and thought that rebloomers (left untouched) just sent up new scapes later in the season, on their own ...
not true?
