many of the ones that I found had scorch in my gardens.. I dug and left lay on the lawn in the heat driven days of June and July. They were on a tarp actually.. I figured hopefully they would get enough heat to rid the plant of its ailment. They were all planted back at the end of July/first part of Aug. Some did not make it at all, but there are also some that are starting their new roots and even little tiny green leaves! Don't know if they will make it through the winter, but perhaps they will have a fighting chance.
I know I could have replaced these as they weren't the expensive ones, but in my heart they are worth way more as they came from friends. I'm stubborn that way I reckon.
I guess if it was me, I'd clean it up a little (like you did) and leave it. It'll either get better or die totally (at least that is my reasoning.)
