This year I ordered a bunch of caladium bulbs, a few trays of impatience and bought a huge Fushia Gartmeister. Added some elephant ears & begonia whopper. Someone gave me some annebelle hydrandgea, hosta, and calla lily bulbs. It was a difficult year due to the unusual prolonged high heat and drought. I did a lousy job of plantning the caladiums and thanks to one of the members here I have a better perspective on how to plant them next year (I must dig them up and store for the winter in my area). The calla lilies where drop dead gorgeous and I wonder why I never planted them in the past.
Everything else did ok except the fushia gartmeister. I will winter it over and plant it in an even shadier location next year. I was shocked to see the hydrangea bloom the first year and really thrived. In a couple of years it will be a nice foundation planting. I have it in other areas in the garden and it is really a work horse here. It's a work in progress and coming along nicely. I can see the hummingbird feeder out of the kitchen window and the hummers are keeping us entertained.
