I just returned from an 11 day trip. My lawnmower broke down right before I left, but I didn't worry about it because it looked like all the grass was dead from the drought and heat. Wouldn't you know, it rained while I was gone, and all the grass and weeds sprung to life! I had not informed my neighbors I was going anywhere since the trip was supposed to just be 4 days. Thankfully, one of them brought my newspapers up to the door, and another mowed the area in the ditch. I have so many shrubs that they can't really see into the property, so the tall grass wasn't visible from the street.
Now I have to rush to find someone to repair the lawnmower. Maybe one of my neighbors will let me use their mowers since we all have the same kinds. I'm hesitant to ask, because I mow 10 acres on my property. A few years back, I let the mowing go too long because every day that i had free to mow, it rained. I ended up having to pay someone to use a baling mower, no kidding! Really don't want that to happen again.
My rain gauge says we got 1.5 inches of rain, and the pond is still low, so I think the rain must have been a slow steady one. Sad i missed that! Around here, rain usually is part of a loud violent thunderstortm, and comes down heavy and fast, then runs off without soaking in.
Some of my shrubs are greening up again, but the trees that I thought were dead are still dead.
Remember that children, marriages, and flower gardens reflect the kind of care they get.
