I've found that fungus gnats lay eggs in the soil that you can't see.
Bonide make an houseplant insect control that is very effective in controlling these.I use it a week or 10 days before bring the plants indoors.

If you don't you're liable to be infested a couple of weeks after bringing your plants indoors.
