I was being cautious since I didn't know what problems Preen could cause since it had been spread on top of the bed prior to any bare roots being planted in the soil. Also, I noticed on the website and container of Preen that it is not listed to be used with peony so that was my concern. I figured perhaps I could just scape the soil surface off with the Preen to avoid any negative effects.
