Matterhorn is pretty since it is a creamy white with no pink defects. Isn't it frustrating when the plants fall over, and damage the flowers? Its happened to me three times this winter. The flower scapes just get so top heavy. I still have to figure out someway to stabilize my plastic pots or I will have to start using larger and heavier clay pots. I have discovered a way to save the flowers that break off right at the top. Sometimes they break off with enough stem to just put them in a vase, but I my "Nyora" fell over and broke off where the pedicel attaches to the scape. You can't just stick them in a vase, since the heavy flower will just tip right out. I was looking in my kitchen drawers for inspiration, and found a bag of narrow diameter bambo skewers. I stuck the skewer up the hollow center of the pedicel. I cut the skewer to a lenght that fit into a narrow vase and kept the open end of the pedicel below the water. As of today, the blooms still look OK, and I was able to get a photograph.
