Your potting mix is close to mine. I use potting mix, perlite and chicken grit. If you use sand, just make sure it is very coarse to allow for good drainage. Fine sand can turn into a hard mass and actually prevent drainage. They're pretty tough little plants. I'm in Wisconsin and mine make it through our brutal winters just fine.
