I believe the cannas that grow in the ponds are different than the other cannas. I did have one years ago that I grew in my bog and it grew and flowered happily. Unfortunately, I lost the plant in my overwintering inside attempts. You, however, are in a zone that may allow your plant to stay outside year round.

Do you have the actual name of the plant? Different marginal plants have different depth requirements of water that they enjoy and this information would be tied to the name of the plant.
