Kate I think that's right! I don't know the science of it, I only know that it does seem to "dry" up the soil.
Jackie, the bottom 2 plants look like some type of Aeonium, they are lovers of warmth!! Mine always seem more finicky, but if you can keep them alive a few months they bounce back and do fine! (especially once you're in May and temps are warm enough for outdoors!) Group hug
