Maintenance of Perennial Beds.
Montauk daisy aside, I cut back the perennials by later fall.

Re Montauk daisy: it really needs pruning in spring/early summer.
From past experience: without this attention, you get the fall blooms on the end of long, bare, leggy, meandering stalks.
The plant is far more attractive if pruned to be bushy and compact.
