The first peas I presprouted in soil blocks have their first blossom. But the germination was so poor and then they just sat there for the longest time. We may get a meal or two out of what finally did grow. then I planted Dwarf Greys and they came up very well and are doing good. Then I finished the row with more Dwarfs and some Oregon Giants and Super Sweets. Oregon Giants had terrible germination as did the Super Sweets. But I planted Super Sweets last year and had the same problem. I have never had Oregon Giants but I think I'll just stick to the Dwarf Greys from now on since they can be eaten as pods or full grown peas.

Strawberries should be ready by end of the week. Went to Wal-Mart and got some Whirlygigs to try and keep the birds away. They are pecking at every berry that shows any sign of red. Thumbs down

Beans are doing okay. I plant three colors, bush, green, yellow and purple. Greens didn't germinate so well so I'll have to replant some. Oh, and we planted Golden Yukons. They were very slow to germinate and not very many. It's late but I'm going to plant more if I can find any seed potatoes.

Two broccoli have little quarter size heads so far. By this time last year I was harvesting. Loosehead lettuce is about ready, as is Romaine. We've been harvesting leaf for a couple of weeks. Carrots, beets, radishes and turnips are doing fine. We've gotten rain and were doing some watering. I will be out of town for four days so I'm trying to get everything in before I leave. Peppers are really small though. They may have to wait and just have someone water while we're gone. We got the tomatoes in just before the rain and they are looking great!
