Deb sorry for the rather late reply.
Yes beebalm can be grown in large containers I have done so . It also can be contained by planting in a container and bury the container . If you bury the container it should be checked the 3rd year because I have had it grow through the holes in the bottom of the pot and split the plastic pot.

The other solution is to plant it in an island bed that can be mowed around.
