When you go to the swap, you'll be amazed at how many people just bring stuff to give away. You can also take things like 4" pots, old gardening magazines, anythng garden related. But, you don't have to....and next time you'll have plants that you can share with someone else who doesn't have any.
As for your pond/garden area....If there's a Lowe's nearby, haunt it in spring. They buy way too many plants and sell entire racks for $20. (It used to be $10).
I'll check to see if I have a couple of pics of my pond. Right now all the palms have cratered. I'll be starting over, I think.
