The name is Mortimer Sackler, by the way. He just died in March and he was a prominent philanthropist -- and anything but a slacker. (I tried to come back and put a smilie here, but it didn't work because I had already gone on to the next paragraph).

While Toni's Sir John Betjeman ID might be correct, I have my doubts. The rose is so new that only a couple of places on this continent are carrying it this year. It's doubtful that Chamblee's has had SJB long enough to produce a bush that size, or even a bush large enough to take cuttings from. It looks suspiciously like The Dark Lady to me. Chamblee's Dark Lady is always that color, much to the surprise of people who expect it to look like the photo on their website.
