It was quite overcast yesterday (rain this weekend, yeah!) so I took a quick trip to the local rose garden to see what's blooming. Here are a few highlights.
This first one is called Mel's Heritage, named for Mel Hulse, the former curator of this garden. It's a Hybrid Wichurana bred by Paul Barden. http://www.helpmefind.com/rose... Small clusters of sweet blooms of pale apricot fading to soft pink on a tall plant they have growing on a pillar and also another big one along a chain link fence.
Note from Paul "This seedling was given to the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden in 2005 for trial purposes. I had neglected to follow up on this rose until recently. Reports of its superb qualities at the San Jose Heritage garden have encouraged me to consider commercial release of it, which may happen as soon as 2009. It will be a special release through the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden to raise funds for maintenance and expansion of the garden. It is now called 'Mel's Heritage' to honor one of its previous directors who was well known by many who visited the Heritage. Mel's contributions to the Heritage were instrumental in making it the world class collection it is today.
