We had almost record heat this 4th of July weekend.. in the upper 90s and almost 100 degrees on Monday, which is ridiculous for our area. Normals are supposed to be in the mid 80s. What I had done the week before was watered & fed like gangbusters heavily so my poor roses could take the extreme heat, then just let them alone during the frying time. And, because of all the mulch I have around my yard & the fact that it *is* the 4th of July weekend, I watered lightly on both Sunday (about 94-96degs) and Monday (99degs) so that the mulch wouldn't catch fire should a firework land on it. Now, tonight, I need to deadhead desperately.. my front yard is full of spent blooms. But I did get some pretties this morning, including a lot of new ones!
