I agree I rarely use any chemical sprays either, Gigi. But with orchids, sometimes drastic measures are needed, they are so sensitive and die so easily. Not to mention expensive.

Soapy water and baking soda/water are my standby sprays, and work great for fungi and bugs in winter. But they don't touch the black plague on the orchids, or the rust on the plummies and cannas for that matter. Most of my edibles are grown in the winter, so there is little danger of contamination here at this time of year. All I have right now are papayas. They are up high enough to be safe.
