@OldGardener : how great that you can grow Smoky Mountain Autumn (SMA) in southern California! : ) Years ago on Dave's Garden someone on the East Coast (who is quite knowledgeable about daylilies) warned me against buying SMA - after I became infatuated with its color - because it was considered a 'hard dormant.' In other words, it needed a true freeze (not just a couple of hours in the early mornings hours) in the winter to prosper. So, I didn't buy it.
But, then when I saw a pic of it from a San Francisco East Bay gardener, I thought - well: maybe it might be happy here on the other side of the Bay. Great to know from you that I can go ahead and order it! : ) If it's happy in your garden down south, then surely it'll be happy in mine. : ) Thanks!
