I find some people try to root pineapple tops with flesh still on the stem - by letting it dry out or something. I've gotten 100% success by cutting the stem completely away from the fruit and pulling off bottom leaves until I have about an inch of white showing then just stick it in soil and keep the soil moderately moist. Works every time for me.
