I have had Minstrel Boy for at least 15 years and it is still in the same place and not blooming much anymore. So last year I dug a couple clumps from the outside of the plant (and promised to divide the whole plant soon!) Minstrel Boy is a very dark purple in my garden, so the flower from the removed clump that bloomed this year (beginning last week) was a real surprise! It is much lighter, more of a Lavender Rose, has a Munson-like watermark and a bright yellow/chartreuse throat! Probably a bee pod seed that grew right outside the original plant is my guess. It isn't spectacular, but if it blooms this late next year that would make it a keeper.
