Lynn,

If you're like me you have already "mentally germinated and grown" those seedlings from your crosses. Even when I'm making the crosses I sort of see in my head what the seedlings will be. However, the 'Killer' seedlings have certainly been surprises. It has given brilliant colors and color that lasts all season in most cases. Imagine 'Oddity' X 'Killer'!!

I hate crossing the heuffeliis as you have to rip all the petals off to get to the stamens so I mostly have been covering those stalks, moving the pollen from flowers on the same stalk without removing the anthers. That way I'm sure they're self-pollinated at least. Am trying to see which cultivars give rise to yellow/ gold seedlings. We need some VIGOROUS gold heuffeliis. I am seeing the paler seedlings from 'Torrid Zone' and 'Hot Lips' that Bill Nixon predicted would happen. Some of these are sort of grass green or lime green now (like 'Gold Bug' or 'Xanthoheuf' do) whereas their siblings are bright red. Best news is that some of these light ones also seem to be vigorous.

Kevin
