Ivy, both my rooted plants and cuttings survive 4-5 months inside the house. Dormancy is completely normal for these plants, grown in temperate climates. Just be sure they stay completely dry and without light during this period. You don't want to stimulate them with light and without moisture, you won't have to worry about rot. I have done this for two decades and the survival rate (though this is a guess) has to be greater than 95%.
