Update on my mystery plant which I noticed last Fall growing in our little Bog: ( with background story again)
I had potted it up and kept it inside during last indoor season, keeping it moist and warm. It spent the Summer outside in a slightly larger pot, since it had added a couple small plants to the original plant. By late Summer it started to spike!
it took its sweet time (inside since September) and here it is finally opening a beautiful spike. I was leaning towards Habenaria until it started to show some white.
I have seen tons of good looking plants of Spiranthes cernua, none looked as good as this. And if you look at the Spiranthes cernua v. odorata, at the overflow of the Bog, the plants always look so teensy and crummy, I would never ever have guessed that they are the same. Since the timing is the same as the odorata, ( always a month later than other cernua) and looking at the arrangement of the blooms, I would think my mystery plant is Spiranthes cernua v. odorata. It is also a bit taller than most cernua spikes, but that could be cultural.
Outside group - Spiranthes odorata
And here is my indoor Spiranthes odorata
Pretty?
