Thanks Dianne. You've solved a mystery for me. I kept thinking that I had some bulbs in the ground, but hadn't seen blooms in a couple of years. So I assumed it died or became food for voles. It could be that the frost causes it to die back before it blooms. I remember now that when it bloomed before, it was late in the season. The one with the bud now is in a pot. Next year, I'll sink the pot in the ground and bring it in before our killing frost to enjoy the blooms.
