Pokeweed, if I knew it was growing in my yard and had if I had picked the young leaves in the spring and cooked them in two changes of water, that would be a good thing.
But this one grew itself behind a tree where I could not see it. Once the tree was cut down, and we found this monster 7 foot tall Pokeweed growing, my dog Jack helped to dig out the 'root' of the Pokeweed plant - this root from outer space was almost 4 feet long and about as fat as a football for much of its length. The only good thing was that it grew horizontally and so Jack was able to dig it out with help from myself and two of my friends. Oh, and I had to pay the two friends $20 for helping; Jack works for peanuts.
I'm sure there will be plenty more sprouting up in the spring. C'mon over and make lunch!
