If you comb through Manual of Woody Landscape Plants in search of shumate tree you won't find any.
Least ways I didn't.

After several probes its sounding like Shumate is old-Texican for sumac. And likely flame-leaf sumac at that.

If you were starting sumac from seed, would you cold stratify them like most woody plant seed?
