The Christmas/New Year's Holiday has been anything but normal here in the mountains of central Vermont. We are used to snow but the past several weeks have brought us ice storms, rain, and sub zero temps, knocking out thousands of northern Vermonters electricity for days. When ice forms on tree limbs, the weight of the ice brings down power lines. Driving has been hazardous on highways and backroads.

We have fared better in Central VT, thank goodness, but driving anywhere requires vigilance. With this current storm, it won't be the snow that is a problem but the low temps. Here is our current weather forecast for the next several days. I dream of Spring, and hope that my preparations for Winter have safely protected my 'babies' (daylilies) from this unusual weather pattern. All those 'wooly caterpillars' I saw last Fall predicted correctly this deep freeze. The coldest December in years for Vermonters!

Weather Forcast

"Our central and southern counties will get the brunt of this storm, ending up with 6-12" of this powdery snow.

It will also be dangerously cold for the next couple of days. Low temperatures and brisk, north winds will bring the wind chills into the 20s & 30s BELOW ZERO. Cover all exposed flesh to avoid frostbite. And keep the pets inside!" Blinking
