I love this thread! Patterns are something I've been curious about since I started growing daylilies, so I just went to the AHS site and read about patterned daylilies, and I've copied an excerpt here.

PATTERNS/PATTERNED DAYLILIES

"A daylily that exhibits variations in hue, value, or saturation of the base, midrib, or throat color, in such a way that a design is created beyond that of a bold or solid eye, band, halo or watermark, with or without simple picotee edging. This type of "patterning" includes, but is not limited to, daylilies with concentric rings or feathering of color within the eyezone or elsewhere. It excludes selfs, simple bitones, and simple bicolors."

There were several excellent photographs of different examples, and a couple of the pictures showed what they call a "mascara band" at the outer edge of the eye zone, followed by a different color or colors moving down toward the throat. It seems that I have quite a few of those and didn't realize they would be considered patterned daylilies. And when I went through my photos and really focused on the eye zone area, I was amazed at what I found there that I had never realized I had captured in my pictures!

I'm going to start with minis/smalls with eye patterns because I think they are absolutely adorable and such wonderful creations.

TINY FIRECRACKER - The pattern really showed itself on this little poly.
