I also sent that pic to a few friends aswell, one of them helped lead me down the right path, he said it was a timber type, phyllostackys... From there it was just a matter of time, clicking links to different pics...there's only a couple hundred different phyllostackys...much less daunting than the whole bamboo family, 1500 species!
Sooo...I came up with phyllostackys edulis 'hetercycla...
Though I did notice a few difference between it and the plant I posted...mainly there's some extra knobs on each internode of the one I posted...
I also found that it's rather popular in japan, they call it kikko, which apparently means tortoise shell!
All this leads to one point!
This plant is basically not available in the US...
I found a few mentions of it selling for thousands of dollars here in the past, but no promising leads on actually getting any...I can't even pay hundreds much less thousands!
So I'm just going to erase this plant from my want list...and go on about my life...unless of course anyone has any promising leads...
