When I was in SoCal, for years I wanted to be able to grow filberts.....but they don't grow down there. So now I can finally get a couple of filberts and I'm deciding what to do with them....tree or shrub? I've read that they sucker when grown as a shrub.....

1. Can anyone say that I grow mine as shrubs and that's fine?

or

2. Growing them as shrubs is something that you really, really, really don't want to do?

TIA.....
I could be wrong...
and.....
"maybe I should have kept my mouth shut....."
